It's very impressive to get your thoughts on this, John. jQuery rocks. The browser is FireFox 3.0 for Mac.
Your reply got me thinking about what could be specific to the browser I'm using. I disabled all my FireFox add-ons and restarted FireFox. Hide() now correctly hides the div before the logo can be seen. :) Thanks very much for the feedback! -Vik
