The css() jQuery method has two sintaxes.
For one css declaration use:
$('#contenido').css('float', 'left');
For multiple css declarations use:
$('#contenido').css ({
float: 'left',
width: '480px',
min-height: '250px',
...,
backgroundColor: '#fff'
});
