1. i suggest you download this script and run it locally
http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajaxlibs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js<http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js>
2. if you try a simple alert through jquery does it work
put the following code in an external file and link it to your page
$(function() {
alert("it works");
});
if the alert does not work somethings wrong.
