forums and lists. With a forum, you have to log in. With a list, you
receive the email.

I think it's several steps forward from the lowly G group.

It's forums, so it is very 2002 actually. That Google made a group
possible is nice, but spammers (the bane of sentient beings) seem
to have ruined the advance to meaningful email lists. With no real
help from Google, SPAM is not a real problem with pipermail and
or Mailman and/or other competent list software. Or even Yahoo!
Groups, if properly moderated.
