There are other options. I am working with a firm that uses a driver called
TWFreeTDS - the same company also has a for-purchase driver.

I'm currently using the Inet drivers and they are working fine.  Its just
this one client that is requesting the Microsoft drivers (the free one,
from MS).  Its new, but was hoping someone may be using it already and have
some feedback.
