Katya watched closely.  This being had answers, and she wanted to find out
what they were, but he was terrified.  She decided on the subtle approach. 
She put her sidearm back in its holster and moved out from behind her cover,
hands out in front of her.  Her position pinned him between the sea, the other
party and herself, leaving only one way out, through the woods.  She hoped he
wouldn't take it.  Right then, she wished she had some kind of Starfleet
insignia on her.

"No one is going to hurt you," she said in a loud enough voice to be heard. 
"We are from Starfleet; we are the rescue party.  We are from the U.S.S.
Protector to help you."  She tried tobe as non-threatening as possible, which
was really hard for her to do, but she made the best of it.
