Stereo or surround?

Yeah, Ithink that the physical cable can allow for full bandwidth but there seem to be copyright protection things going on and as far as I can tell what rate it's being sent at is dependent entirely upon what you're sending from and what you're sending it too. I don't think you can actually tell what it's being transmitted at at any givven time, which is why I plan to remove all doubt and move up to HDMI quite soon.

I'm not sure exactly, but I know I can send uncompressed stereo audio between my M-audio card and external DAC, at 24-bit 96KHZ. So it can at least handle that.
