Hi matt. You only want to arm the midi track. Unless you're using a simple instrument track. Being that you're new to this, perhaps a split track is the way to go for now at least. That way, you have seperet audio and midi tracks to work with.
Also, I find it easier when the allow midi recording without an armed track is checked. But, that's me. Some may not prefer that.
