Hi,
 Welcome to JSonar!
Regarding MP3 and WAV files, you need to use the import feature in the file
menu for that ,and not the open file.
Go to file -> Import -> Audio.
As for the sound card issue, there was a post on relevant subject just
yesterday or a day before to Mathew. See if you can find that post and see
if that solves your problem. If not or if you can't find the post, feel free
to post the question again.

Subject: [Jsonar] Sonar won't Play any Sounds

Hello,

This isn't a jsonar issue. I'm new to jaws, sonar, and jsonar. I'm using
my secondary computer, which doesn't have an m-audio soundcard, just the
built in real-tech hd card.

I'm not getting any sound from the sonar 8 producer trial. Also, I cant
open an mp3 or wav file in sonar, in the files type box, mp3 and wav do not
appear. When I open a preexisting cakewalk project and hit spacebar to play
it, jaws says playing but no audio comes from sonar. Shouldn't sonar be
able to play from the default soundcard like every other program does?

The reason I don't go ahead and buy and install everything on my pro audio
recording computer is that it already can record very well with cool edit at
32 bit float in my studio and it sounds excellent. My problem with cool
edit is that it cant use new technology plugins for mixing and adding
effects. Most important, I don't want to mess up a functioning recording
system that's been working over 8-years.

I emailed cakewalk, but would appreciate any insight on why sonar won't play
anything.

Rich
