Since at least JSP 1.0, JSP pages have had:

"a standard translation into a valid XML document.  This translation is
useful because it provides a standard mechanism to use XML tools and APIs to
read, manipulate, and author JSP documents" (p. 22, JSP 1.0 spec., also on
p. 30 of JSP 1.1 PR2 spec.).

This can mean that the browser is serving up the page from its cache instead
of requesting a fresh copy from the server.
