Servlets/JSP Model 2

Title: JSP book?

The model 2 APM describes how the servlet handles all the functionality while your jsp handles the presentation.  So how do servlets handle functionality on entry pages???  

Say if the page was index.jsp and that page includes content from the database, how would you do it? 

And would the links in your documents be to JSP files or servlets that will forward your request to JSP files?
