I think it is never appropriate to post private email. If you have a problem
with one of the participants, it is better to take it up with the list owner
privately.

Agreed! The reply field should default to the list, which should help
prevent some of the email address harvesting that is apparently going on.
Also, this should solve the problem of several bounced emails coming back to
the poster every time someone posts to the list. Are the spammers joining
the mail list or is the list permitting mail from non-subscribers?
