We've built our OR persistence layer using ideas from odmg JDO along with
some from the connector spec. (for security interceptors). I'd suggest
looking at http://xml.apache.org/xerces-j/index.html which supports schemas,
is open source, is well documented and is excellent. It should help you
with your descisions.
