Anyone evaluating the "proprietoriness" of ATG Dynamo should realize
that ATG Dynamo has been around alot longer than the JSP standard (alot
longer is relative in web terms).
Their implementation of the concept of java server pages predates the
current JSP development effort by a number of years. In fact, if I
remember correctly, they are the ones that proposed the idea of JSPs to
Sun and actually provided some of their page compiler code to the
initial JSP effort (but I may be wrong so don't flame me).
That being said, I believe that ATG Dynamo will fully support the J2EE
and JSP 1.1 spec in the next release of Dynamo. Don't quote me, I don't
work for the company.
Like any commercial product, they need time to update their product to
comply with current standards. Other JSP servers on the market don't
support the 1.1 spec but will in the near future (i.e. WebSphere).
So, to answer your question, the "proprietoriness" on their part was
deliberate because they were in the market a long time before JSP was
standardized and need to retain compatability with their existing
customer base.
