Forgot to add when u r using PreparedStatement... instead of using
createStatement() use the following:
PreparedStatement pstmt = con.prepareStatement("<your SQL Query>");
int i = pstmt.executeUpdate();
executeUpdate() returns no of rows affected.check the API.
