I think following logic is simpler than the Raju's

int max1 = 0, max2 = 0, max3 = 0;
while (there are more no's in the database)
{
        n = extract_next_number_from_db();
        if (n > max1)
        {
                if (n > max2)
                {
                        if (n > max3)
                        {
                                max1 = max2;
                                max2 = max3;
                                max3 = n;
                        }
                        else
                        {
                                max1 = max2;
                                max2 = n;
                        }
                }
                else
                {
                        max1 = n;
                }
        }
}

result:  max3 > max2 > max1
