The smartass reply is, "authorship and ownership are two different things." :) It's not an @owner tag, or a @currentmaintainer tag, is it?

If you've touched so much of the code, why don't you then remove the other authors? They no longer have any relevance in the actual authorship of the current file...

I am totally uncertain as to what the @authorship really signifies or what the benefit of it is.
