SMTP failure in password reset utility

When a user attempts to reset their password the following error is thrown:
[TP-Processor2] ERROR com.ecyrd.jspwiki.util.MailUtil
wiki:/wiki/LostPassword.jsp wiki:https://yourhost/wiki/LostPassword.jsp -
javax.mail.MessagingException: 501 Syntax: HELO hostname
After watching the traffic on the mail relay, it appears the mail library
attempts to EHLO and HELO without a hostname. This issue is not present in
v2.4.102, which was also tested for the bug.
Java version on the host is 1.5.0_14-b03.
