Clarification: Lucene indexing of attachments?

Could someone clarify if JSPWiki indexes the contents of attachments 
(.doc, .xls, .odt, .pdf, etc) with Lucene?  

Once upon a time I thought I read about this, but am not able to dig up my 
memory online.
