My current thoughts are that the latest version of Cairo 1.14.2 installed by Julia is the source of my text rendering problems on MacOS X.
So is it possible to revert the version of Cairo libraries installed by Pkg.add() and Julia's Homebrew to an earlier version? I know that you can control the loading of Julia packages using Pkg.pin. I tried some obvious things, but quickly broke the installation... :)
