Hi, I'm not sure that an toolbox-like panel is a good solution for attribute tables. Like you and Larry, I often feel frustrated with the attribute table going behind the layerview. I don't always remember there is a way to get it back in the window menu. Having a floating attribute table looks like a workaround to me, not the ideal solution. The best choice would probably be a docking framework, but it's also more work. by the way, if you want to test your solution, I think ViewAttributesPlugIn is a good place to start. (I had to dig in the UI's framework to solve some problems with the way the internal windows were closed when the task they depend on was closed : changing internal frames to another kind of window may have some side effects)
