I think the RE takes just a small part in the overall convergence time.
It is the part where LC CPU is pushing the SW FIB onto LU -one think is how 
fast you can read from a memory to perform a lookup and the other thing is how 
fast can you write information onto the memory.
But since the convergence time is not linear I believe there's some problem 
with buffer overflow dropped information and necessary retransmission when a 
lot of information needs to be programed at once
-that is if you measure convergence for 2M prefixes and divide the time by 2M 
to calculate convergence for one prefix you will get a much higher number than 
you get when you actually measure convergence for 1 prefix.
