Yes, I double checked and I mis-spoke^Wwrote. If you are using IMAPS or SMTPS, then the password is also encrypted.

Finally, I think Seth's statement about Proxies is incorrect. The point
of a proxy is to make a connection via another server.

True. I was speaking of the purpose of using a secure proxy when on an unknown network to encrypt traffic from end to end, or end to proxy anyway. If you're trying to secure your traffic via a proxy, but you don't know who owns or manages the proxy, it defeats the purpose. If you're using a proxy for other reasons and not just to encrypt traffic between your device and the proxy server, then what you say holds true.

For example, my parents are on a cruise and they want to use the WiFi aboard the boat. But it's unsecured. I can set up a secure proxy they can use which would encrypt traffic between their device and my proxy server. Between the proxy server and the end station, whatever protocols exist, exist. If they're checking mail by unsecure POP3 it's going to be unsecure from the proxy server to the POP3 server but we can at least encrypt the traffic from the cruise ship to the proxy server to prevent people on the same WiFi network from seeing the unencrypted traffic.

But in general, proxies server many more purposes than this. The OP seemed to indicate they were attempting to do what I am talking about, but being an unknown proxy service, they can do with the unencrypted traffic whatever they like.

If, however, you are finding that your password is unencrypted, that is not likely the fault of the e-mail client, but more to do with your configuration.
