Today in Science/Astronomy:

* Rare Planet Alignment in April and May
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/planets_align_020402-1
html

Several planets are assembling toward a rare alignment later this month,
when five of them will crowd into a patch of sky small enough that all
will be visible in a single glance. The setup will provide a
planet-watching opportunity that won't be repeated for a century.

* Mars Odyssey's Picture of the Day: Ganges Chasma Landslide
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/mars_daily_020401.html

Scientists released the first of many raw images of Mars, provided by
the Mars Odyssey spacecraft, that they plan to provide in coming weeks.
Odyssey's Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) captures the images
as the craft orbits Mars.

* Mystery of Black Water off Florida Solved
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/planetearth/blackwater_solved_0202
29.html

A mysterious patch of black water off the Florida coast, the extent of
which was detailed by satellite images, is most likely the result of a
bloom of algae, officials said today after examining the results of
water tests.

Today in Missions/Launches:

* ISS's Uncertain Future: International Partners Watch and Wait
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/sts110_preview_020402-1.html

Shuttle Atlantis is ready to launch on a mission that should give the
International Space Station (ISS) some "backbone" -- both from a
hardware standpoint and as a way to shore up politics between the United
States and the outpost's multi-national partners.

* NEW! Satellite Views from Space

* China's Shenzhou 3 Capsule Returns to Earth
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/shenzhou_touchdown_020401.html

The aerospace workers in red jumpsuits leaped into the air and cheered.
The military officials, all in a row at mission control, nodded
approvingly. And the odd, bowl-shaped craft sat intact upon the
Mongolian grassland, carrying a country's hopes for a spaceborne future.
