Beyond the Golden Gate--Oceanography, Geology, Biology, and
Environmental Issues in the Gulf of the Farallones
  This study was initiated in 1989 "to establish a scientific
  data base for an area of 3,400 square kilometers (1,000
  square nautical miles) on the Continental Shelf adjacent to
  the San Francisco Bay. The results can be used to evaluate
  and monitor human impact on the marine environment." The
  study was published as U.S. Geological Survey Circular
  1198 and is presented here in 80-page and 240-page
  versions.
