Featured Space Store Product

* Space Food Sticks
http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/technology/space_gear-1.html

Do you remember Space Food Sticks? They're back! Long unavailable in the
United States, Space Food Sticks are back in limited quantities. The
Space Food Sticks Preservation Society (there really is such an
organization) discovered they never ceased production in Australia and
found a way to distribute the sticks stateside.

Today in Science/Astronomy:

* Mystery Bursts Tied Firmly to Exploding Stars
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/astronomy/mystery_bursts_020516.ht
ml

New research to be announced today shows strong evidence linking
exploding stars called supernova to high-energy bursts of gamma rays.

* To Err is Human... and of Interest to ET?
http://www.space.com/searchforlife/seti_vakoch_err_020516.html

Humans live and die by approximations. We are seldom as perfect or as
accurate as we would like to be. And as we contemplate what we might say
to an advanced extraterrestrial civilization, maybe that's a point we
should emphasize.

* How Venus Lost Its Oceans
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/venus_oceans_020516.ht
ml

"Soon after the planets were formed 4.5 billion years ago, Earth, Venus
and Mars probably all had water," says Maura Rabbette of NASA's Ames
Research Center. "How did Earth manage to hold onto all of its water,
while Venus apparently lost all of its water?"

* Mars Odyssey's Picture of the Day: Utopia Planitia
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/mars_daily_020515.html

This image is located in Utopia Planitia, a large plain in the northern
hemisphere. It is believed that this basin is the result of a large
impact. On the right side of the image is a partially imaged crater with
a well-preserved ejecta blanket.

Today in Missions/Launches:

* International Space Station Oxygen Producer Breaks
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/iss_repairs_020515.html

The international space station's three residents are using a backup
method of producing oxygen while trying to fix a broken generator.

* Baikonur Disaster Victims Buried In Kazakhstan
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/baikonur_funerals_020515.html

More than 2,000 mourners paid last respects Wednesday to seven Kazakh
workers killed when a hangar roof collapsed at Russia's main space
launch site, lamenting poor worker protection at the secretive complex.

* Space Weapons For Earth Wars
http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/technology/space_war_020515-1.ht
ml

While the latest Star Wars sci-fi saga makes its way to a cinema near
you, a true-to-life space drama is unfolding as a new breed of weaponry
may soon populate the heavens.

Today in Business/Industry:

* NASA Awards $42.5 Million Contract to Spacehab
http://www.space.com/spacenews/index.html

NASA's Johnson Space Center awarded a $42.5 million contract
modification to Houston-based Spacehab Inc. to support a pair of space
shuttle missions to the international space station in 2003, NASA
reported May 14.
