Shaky foundations
http://www.theschooldaily.com/articleView.asp?articlePK=12936
At Anglia Polytechnic University, students are queuing round the block
to take up places on the new foundation degree course for classroom
assistants. They say it is exactly what they want to boost their
qualifications and move their careers forward. But other foundation
degree courses languish half-empty. An e-systems course at Hastings
College of Art and Technology, set up with the University of Brighton,
is one of many that has struggled to recruit and keep students, and is now
looking to relaunch itself...

The Linda Vining Column: 'Multichannel marketing to sell K'g'
http://www.theschooldaily.com/articleView.asp?articlePK=12818

six steps to a marketing plan I asked participants to identify
one aspect of their school they wanted to sell. Several people

Alan Smithers: Stop spinning the stats and hire more teachers
http://www.theschooldaily.com/articleView.asp?articlePK=12935
The Government is wriggling on the hook of teacher workload. Faced with
solid evidence from its own review body that teachers are working more

not workload, are the issue. Any action, it has said, will have to await
consultation, the next Comprehensive Spending Review and some pilots in
pathfinder schools...

http://www.theschooldaily.com/articleView.asp?articlePK=12934
Early years education has been a Cinderella, neglected by the UK
government for decades. The outcome was that British parents seized the
initiative and set up their own pre-school groups for under-fives. But
since Labour swept to power in1997 state money has been pouring into the
early years, and the experts are now questioning whether parents are
being elbowed out of the picture...
