Today in Science/Astronomy:

* The Search for the Scum of the Universe
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/astronomy/odds_of_et_020521-1.html

The odds for extraterrestrial life on Earth-like planets will be put at
1-in-3 in a soon-to-be published report in the journal Astrobiology, but
the smartest earthlings have no clue what that life might look like or
where to find it.

* Solar Eclipse June 10 over North America
http://www.space.com/spacewatch/eclipse_2002_020520.html

One of Nature's most interesting sky shows, an eclipse of the Sun, will
be visible to most North Americans on Monday, June 10, weather
permitting.

* Plotting the Rocky Re-Entry of NASA's Largest Satellite
http://www.space.com/news/uars_update_020520.html

NASA is studying what may happen when the agency's largest satellite,
the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS), makes an uncontrolled
re-entry through Earth's atmosphere about a decade from now.

* Mars Odyssey's Picture of the Day: Arsia Mons
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/mars_daily_020520.html

This THEMIS visible image shows a portion of the summit region of Arsia
Mons, one of the four giant volcanoes in the Tharsis region of Mars.
This volcano stands more than 12 miles (20 km) above the surrounding
plains, and is approximately 280 miles (450 km) in diameter at its base.

Today in Missions/Launches:

* International Space Station Oxygen Generator Back in Action But
Glitches Remain
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/iss_repairs_020520.html

Two days after International Space Station (ISS) engineers coaxed
equipment that generates oxygen into working again, a problem was
detected Sunday as the cooling system automatically prompted computers
to turn off power throughout the outpost.

* Poll: America's Wealthy Willing to Pay Top Dollar for Spaceflight
http://www.space.com/news/space_poll_020520.html

Rocketing into space isn't yet as affordable as jetting off to Cancun
for your holidays, but a new survey of the United States' wealthiest
citizens shows, perhaps unsurprisingly, that those who can afford to go,
want to.

* South African Space Tourist Hopes to Fly Into Space Again
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/shuttleworth_returntrip_020517.html

South African space tourist Mark Shuttleworth said Friday that he hopes
to travel into the cosmos again as he participated in a triumphant
farewell ceremony at Russia's elite space compound.

* NASA Security Comforts Israeli Astronaut
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/israeli_astronaut_020517.html

Israel's first astronaut said Thursday that he feels safe with all of
NASA's security precautions and does not consider himself a terrorist
target -- or even an added risk to his space shuttle flight this summer.

Today in Business/Industry:

* Bill Would Require DoD To Oversee Air Force Acquisition of Space
Hardware
http://www.space.com/spacenews/index.html

The Pentagon's office of the secretary of defense would have to maintain
oversight of the U.S. Air Force's acquisition of space hardware,
according to legislation introduced in Congress on May 15.
