TeachersFirst update - May 27, 2002

This update should find most of you enjoying, or recuperating from, a
long weekend. Here are some thoughts for those whose school year is
ending as well as those who will stay on during the summer months.

Fathers' Day is coming up next month. We'd like to acknowledge the roles
of fathers before everyone leaves for the summer, so we're pointing out
a special page that lists lots of ways in which fathers can be involved
in schools of all types. This is a page full of ideas that might provide
useful next time you want to involve parents in a school project or
activity. Our fathers page is at:
http://www.teachersfirst.com/fathers.html

You can't send your students off for the summer without mentioning
summer reading! While you can't give them the books to read, you can
give them the link to our summer reading pages. We have reading
suggestions for primary students up through high school seniors. Many of
our suggestions include additional web links to information on the
authors or titles we've mentioned. We're adding new listings regularly.
The summer reading pages are on our TeachersAndFamilies site at:
http://www.teachersandfamilies.com/open/summerread.html

Music is much lacking in many of today's schools. Here's a music
resource that even the non-musical teacher can use with students.
Created by the San Francisco Symphony, this interactive site teaches
both the fundamentals of music theory and the more standard information
on musical instruments. It's a great way to teach about music, even if
you're no musician. You'll find The Music Lab at:

Looking for something specific? Have you tried TeachersFirst's keyword
search feature. It lets you search our thousands of listings for a
specific keyword or phrase. It's a great search tool when you want high
quality resources on specific topics. Our keyword search page is at:
http://www.teachersfirst.com/class.shtml

Don't forget the Brain Twisters! Our weekly quiz - one of our most
popular features will continue over the summer to keep your students'
minds from moldering. Elementary and middle school students can find a
regular challenge at: http://www.teachersfirst.com/twister/

This week's featured sites include an Antarctic journey, lessons about
the presidents, a fascinating math site about estimating and comparing,
and lots more. As always, the features are at:
http://www.teachersfirst.com/feature.htm

OK, that's it for this week. Remember, you do make a difference - even
after your students are long gone.
