Wireless Making a Difference in the Classroom

Saint Kentigern College rollout of a wireless LAN (Local Area Network)
in May 2001 unleashed the full potential of the mobile computing strategy
in education pioneered with Toshiba some years ago, and opened up a whole
range of benefits. The wireless solution, which utilises technology from

Cisco Systems and Walker Wireless, is one of the largest of its kind
throughout Australia and New Zealand. Six years ago, Saint Kentigern, in
partnership with Portables Plus, a Toshiba Education Specialist
Reseller, introduced the Toshiba School Notebook Access Plan (SNAP) for
teachers
and students. By 2003 all 1200 students will be armed with a notebook to
aid their learning. Over the same time period, the school had  implemented
a networking infrastructure that by the end of 2000 has the facility to
cater for network access for some of the student in some classrooms. Now
through the use of the wireless, all students and teachers enjoy network
connectivity when and where required anywhere, anytime on the campus ...
