Today in Science/Astronomy:

* Intelligent Aliens?
http://www.space.com/searchforlife/shostak_intelligent_020530.html

There may be a lot of life in the universe. If so, it's a safe bet that
most of it will score lower on the SATs than you.

* Breaking the Surface: How Scientists Could Use Mars' Water-Ice
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/mars_nextphase_020530.html

On Mars, water ice may be both biological buried treasure and a rich
resource for future Mars explorers.

* Minor Planet Named After Russian Comedian
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/astronomy/russian_comedian_020529.html

During his summer tour of the Crimea, Russian comedian Mikhail Zadornov
will receive a diploma from the International Astronomical Union saying
that a minor planet discovered by scientists from the Crimean
astrophysical observatory has been named after him.

* Satellites Show Alarming Retreat of Glaciers
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/planetearth/glacier_retreat_020529.html

Satellite imagery being presented today shows that the great majority of
the world's glaciers are melting at rates equal to or greater than
long-established trends, including some that are receding at alarming
and accelerating paces.

* Pluto New Horizons Team Holding A Steady Course
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/pluto_horizons_020529.html

Putting politics aside, scientists and engineers are on an unwavering
trajectory to send a spacecraft to distant Pluto. But the effort is in
legislative limbo within the U.S. Congress.

Today in Missions/Launches:

* Launch Day Arrives for Endeavour but Weather Threatens
http://www.space.com/shuttlemissions/

Stormy skies remain the top concern today as NASA attempts to launch
shuttle Endeavour on a mission to deliver new hardware and a fresh,
long-term crew to the International Space Station.

* SPACE.com TV: Meet the Crew
http://www.space.com/php/multimedia/spacetv/

The first of our SPACE.com TV crew interviews are now available,
starting
with STS-111 Commander Ken Cockrell.

* Russia: No Plans For *NSYNC's Lance Bass
http://www.space.com/news/bass_russia_020529.html

The Russian space agency said Wednesday that it had no plans to give 'N
Sync's Lance Bass a ride to space, and that no other space tourist has
secured a seat on a Russian rocket set to blast off to the international
space station in October.

Today in Business/Industry:

* Collapsed Roof Causes Minor Damage to Clean Room at Baikonur
http://www.space.com/spacenews/index.html

Ten days after a roof collapse at the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan
killed seven workers and destroyed the decommissioned Soviet-era Buran
space shuttle, portions of the hangar came crumbling down on a clean
room at the facility. It was the first damage to operational space
equipment as a result of the May 12 accident.
