When I started out in my teaching career we immersed ourselves in aims.
Then it became aims and goals. Then it became aims, goals and
objectives. (I even to attended a national in-service course in Auckland
facilitated by a visiting American academic where we were invited to
investigate the educational meaningfulness, relevance, impact, efficacy,
enlightenment, potency and methodological superiority objectives in
educational planning). Then it became aims, goals, objectives and
outcomes. Then it became aims, goals, specific learning objectives
(SLO's), indicators and outcomes. And now - it has become law! The
Education Standards Act (November 2001) bestows mission, aims,
objectives, directions, priorities, intended student outcomes, and,
targets!
