Notwithstanding current industrial unrest this is a pretty clear signal that all is not right with our qualifications shake up. But according to NZQA: *"NCEA gives everyone a full picture of what students know and can do. *NCEA makes it possible for schools to offer a wider variety of learning opportunities. *NCEA will support the sort of learning New Zealand needs in the 21st century." Connect for Kids: 'Alaska Students Make the Grade' http://www.theschooldaily.com/articleView.asp?articlePK=13367 'by Julee Newberger' When Nathaniel Moore's high school class in the small town of Whittier, Alaska studied the gold rush, they traveled 1,100 miles across their state to see where the mining took place. When they studied marine biology, they swam with sea life off the coast of California. And recently, because Moore's school district won a national quality award, he got to meet President Bush. "I don't know any other high schoolers who have had that opportunity," Moore says. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Articles from the latest 'Good Teacher' and NZ Information Literacy Archive http://www.TheSchoolQuarterly.com Special Web Solutions and Services for Schools http://www.heurisko.co.nz/webservices For school audioconferencing POLYCOMs are essential http://www.learnz.org.nz/polycom/ 'Read and Write 5.0' - an easy to use toolbar providing literacy support from textHELP! http://www.texthelp.co.nz Try ASCD's Professional Development Online http://www.ascd.org/framepdonline.html ******************************************* For digest instead of individual postings, send the message: set k12newsletters digest to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe, click and send (no body or subject: required) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] K12 Newsletters mailing list is a service of Classroom Connect - http://www.classroom.com Archives for K12 Newsletters can be found at: http://www.classroom.com/community/email/archives.jhtml?A0=K12NEWSLETTERS **********************************************************
