Plan for Success #6:The importance of a Mission Statement - the power
and purpose of a vision
http://www.theschooldaily.com/articleView.asp?articlePK=14734

Motivator Steven Covey has produced a series of tapes on 'Writing a
Family Mission Statement', which he claims is the most important thing a
family can do. I have adopted and adapted many of the ideas contained on
these tapes for the schools I have worked with and can now categorically
state that writing a School Mission Statement is the most important
thing your school can do. I cannot over-emphasise the vital importance
of schools coming up with Mission Statements that clearly defines who
they are, what they stand for, where they are going and how they are
going to get there. Effective pieces of writing usually require an
agonising amount of time and effort to come up with an opening sentence
that sets the direction of what follows and the Mission Statement in
your school's Strategic Plan is no different. By getting your Mission
Statement right, your goals, and annual objectives and targets will flow
and slot much more smoothly in place than if you slap down something
that! is merely quick and convenient...
