Today in Science/Astronomy:

* Viewer's Guide: Perseid Meteor Shower Peaks Sunday & Monday
http://www.space.com/spacewatch/perseids_spacewatch_020809.html

Every August, just when many people go vacationing in the country where
skies are dark, the best-known meteor shower makes its appearance. As
with many celestial phenomena, there's some curious lore surrounding the
shooting stars of the annual Perseid meteor shower.

* Rover Revealed: Secret Mars Robot Test to be Webcast
http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/technology/mars_rover_020809.htm
l

A top-secret Mars rover test will be exposed Aug. 19 when NASA allows a
film crew from San Francisco's Exploratorium to do a live webcast of a
prototype robot poking around the desert somewhere in the American West.
The Exploratorium is an interactive museum that also conducts astronomy
webcasts from around the world.

* Submit Your Perseid Photos!

If you capture a Perseid meteor on film, send it to us and we'll
consider using it in an upcoming photo gallery.

Today in SpaceFlight:

* Quarter-Century Passes Since Shuttle Enterprise First Flew
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/ov101_020812.html

Before the space shuttle could orbit in space, it had to prove that it
could land on Earth.

* FLORIDA TODAY Asks: Does Lance Bass Have the Right Stuff?
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/fl_bass_020811.html

The Russians are using their money troubles to press world space
agencies to bend new crew selection rules so they can launch pop-music
personality Lance Bass to the International Space Station.

* NASA Weighs Options for Station Escape Craft
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/fl_crv_020811.html

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station are well-trained to
handle emergencies, but ultimately, they must have an escape route.

* Repairs on Shuttle Atlantis Begin at Kennedy Space Center
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/sts112_update_020809.html

Repairs to the tiny cracks inside shuttle Atlantis' main propulsion
system plumbing started Friday afternoon as NASA moved forward with its
plan to resume launches in late September or early October.

Today in Business/Industry:

* Commercial Software To Improve NIMA's Mapping Ability
http://www.space.com/spacenews/spacenews_businessmonday_020812.html

A commercial software package procured recently by a Pentagon agency for
imagery analysis and mapmaking is expected to perform far better than
the suite of government-developed software programs it is intended to
replace, according to officials involved in the project.
