A number of year 12 girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. After they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of lip prints. Every night, the maintenance man would remove them and the next day, the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- EdEVENTS Liggins Institute Seminar: The Origins Of Language http://www.theschooldaily.com/articleView.asp?articlePK=14877 Professor Michael Corballis, Professor of Psychology at the University of Auckland will marshal far-flung evidence from anthropology, animal behaviour, neurology, molecular biology, anatomy, linguistics and evolutionary psychology to make the case that language developed from gesture rather than animal vocalisations. Bringing in evidence to bolster what has been a minority view, Corballis will explain why speech eventually (but not completely!) replaced gesture, and dates this to about 50,000 years ago - much more recent than generally believed. He will use this milestone to account for the artistic explosion and demographic triumph of the particular group of Homo sapiens from whom we are descended. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- UPCOMING EVENTS FROM EdDIARY http://www.eddiary.com 9th National Conference of the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=229 Date : Sunday, 20 October 2002 Venue : Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, Australia 15th Biennial World Conference for Gifted Education http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=216 Date : Friday, 01 August 2003 Venue : Convention Centre, Adelaide, Australia 2002 ASCD Teaching & Learning Conference: Instructional and Leadership Practices That Work http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=385 Date : Friday, 11 October 2002 Venue : Hyatt Regency Superdome, New Orleans, USA Tenth International Democratic Education Conference http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=387 Date : Friday, 16 August 2002 Venue : Living Springs Centre, Christchurch, New Zealand VETnetwork Australia National Conference 2002 - 'Enterprising People and Partnerships: vocational education and careers for a changing world' http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=243 Date : Wednesday, 23 October 2002 Venue : Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre Brisbane, Australia ASCILITE 2002 http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=282 Date : Sunday, 08 December 2002 Venue : UNITEC, Mt Albert, Auckland, New Zealand Dyslexia: "Red Rose Recipe for Success" A Proven Educational Solution http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=283 Date : Saturday, 20 August 2005 Venue : view under events in URL Auckland 5th, Grand Chancellor, Hamilton 6th, Nova, New Zealand Building Self Esteem and Positive Behaviour http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=293 Date : Wednesday, 14 August 2002 Venue : Manukau Education Centre, Manukau, New Zealand Communication & Problem Solving - a Course for Teacher Aides http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=300 Date : Tuesday, 27 August 2002 Venue : St Peters Cathedral, Hamilton, New Zealand Motivation & Behaviour Management - a Course for Teacher Aides http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=305 Date : Thursday, 22 August 2002 Venue : Committee Room Waipa Council, Cambridge, New Zealand Meeting the Emotional & Learning Needs of Adolescents - a Course for Intermediate & Secondary Teacher Aides http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=314 Date : Thursday, 15 August 2002 Venue : St Alban's Worshop Foyer, Hamilton, New Zealand Effective Communication with Children http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=315 Date : Monday, 19 August 2002 Venue : Bay Palm Motel, Mt Maunganui, New Zealand Motivation & Behaviour Management - a Course for Teacher Aides http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=337 Date : Friday, 16 August 2002 Venue : Grey Lynn Community Centre, Grey Lynn, New Zealand Our Children of the Future 3 http://www.edDiary.com/viewEvent.asp?eventPK=383 Date : Thursday, 01 May 2003 Venue : Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide, Australia ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- Articles from the latest 'Good Teacher' and NZ Information Literacy Archive http://www.TheSchoolQuarterly.com 'Read and Write 6.0' - an easy to use toolbar providing literacy support from textHELP! http://www.texthelp.co.nz 'Wordsmith 2.0' an integrated toolbar in MS Word providing literacy support from textHELP! http://www.texthelp.co.nz Browse new ASCD books! http://www.ascd.org/framebooks.html?schooldaily ******************************************* For digest instead of individual postings, send the message: set k12newsletters digest to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe, click and send (no body or subject: required) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] K12 Newsletters mailing list is a service of Classroom Connect - http://www.classroom.com Archives for K12 Newsletters can be found at: http://www.classroom.com/community/email/archives.jhtml?A0=K12NEWSLETTERS **********************************************************
