1) Quest Update: The Perils of Planning a Quest

Hey Questers,

By mid-August in 1492, Columbus was already sailing the ocean blue! In fact,
just about 510 years ago he had arrived in the Canary Islands, off the
northwestern coast of Africa, where he stayed for almost a month to repair and
refit his ships. As for the Quest team.... we're still at Quest headquarters,
where we're busily planning and researching. We've already hit some bumpy seas,

actually, even before leaving port! Let me explain.

People often ask how long it takes to prepare for a Quest. It's a tough
question
to answer, but after doing nine Quests, I'd say it can take anywhere from four
to six months, depending on the issues involved and where we're going. For
AmazonQuest, we had to figure out how to send online content from the middle of

the jungle! On AsiaQuest, we had to get permissions to conduct our project
within China--a tall order, as it turned out. It's always something. Right now,

the biggest challenge facing ColumbusQuest is trying to get permissions from
the
U.S. government to go to Cuba.

2) Reminder: Quest Teacher Email List

ColumbusQuest will introduce a new feature to help you connect to other
teachers. The "Quest Teacher List" is an email list for all the teachers using
the Quest. This is different from the Newsletter, which is all generated by
Classroom Connect.

This new list is going to be discussion oriented, meaning that we are aiming to

foster a solid community of give-and-take interaction with all the teachers on
the list. For those of you who have been involved with the Quest Community in
the past, you know that we centered all teacher interaction on the message
board.

Throughout ColumbusQuest, we can all continue using the message board as a
place
to post important information. However, we are switching to the email list as
the center of attention for generating conversations and idea sharing. Quest
Expert Teachers will be participating on the list as active hosts.

For any of you who have participated in email lists (commonly called
listservs),
you know that it is probably the easiest, most teacher and time-friendly means
of communication we can use.

The list has been created and a few teachers have signed up already. We will
continue to promote this list through the summer and in the fall when teachers
get back to school and ColumbusQuest is near. But if you would like to send a
message and introduce yourself in the mean time, please do.

The email address for the list is: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

To subscribe, you can either go to <http://www.classroom.com/community/email>
OR
You may send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and in the body, type:
