Today in Science/Astronomy:

* British Balloonists to Attempt Record Flight to Edge of Space
http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/technology/QinetiQ1_balloon_020828.h
tml

Some day soon two British balloonists will take an open-air trip to the
very edge of space -- if the weather cooperates. If the mission succeeds,
they will secure the world record for the highest crewed balloon flight.

* New Astronomy: Romance Fades as Technology Takes Over
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/new_astronomy_020827-1.html

When Galileo Galilei first pointed his telescope at Jupiter nearly four
centuries ago, his tools were rather simple -- a tube, some lenses and a
lot of patients to observe the sky night after night. But astronomers these
days see space differently. In fact, they don't really "see" it at all,
since most of them use computers to do the observing.

* Astronotes: NASA Balloon Sets Record
http://www.space.com/news/astronotes-1.html

A massive NASA balloon set adrift August 25 established a world record by
reaching the upper fringes of space. The huge scientific balloon had a
volume of 60 million cubic feet (1.7 million cubic meters) and has claimed
the record of being the largest balloon ever launched successfully.

Today in SpaceFlight:

* Lance Bass Flight Moves Closer To Go-Ahead
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/bass_MCOP_020827.html

Pop singer, Lance Bass of the boy band *NSYNC, is in synch with the
International Space Station's Multilateral Crew Operations Panel (MCOP),
receiving a formal go-ahead today for a late October flight.

* Technical Problem Scrubs Ariane 5 Shot Tuesday
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/ariane5_scrub_020827.html

A technical problem combined with a too-short launch window prevented
Arianespace from sending a pair of European satellites into orbit from
South America on Tuesday.

* NASA Welcomes Its First Celebrity Space Tourist: *N SYNC Singer Lance
Bass
http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/bass_update_020827.html

NASA welcomed its first celebrity space tourist on Monday: 'N Sync singer
Lance Bass, who hopes to clinch a deal with the Russians soon and fly to
the international space station in two months.

Today in Business/Industry:

* Aerojet to Purchase General Dynamics' Propulsion Division
http://www.space.com/spacenews/

Aerojet signed an agreement with General Dynamics to acquire the company's
space propulsion division for approximately $90 million, according to an
announcement from GenCorp Inc., Aerojet's parent company.
