Journey to Alaska's McNeil River to examine a bear cub's life amid the
fierce battles for food and territory. Take a close look at salmon

Monday, September 23, 2002 (8-10:30 pm)
The second episode begins with the political infighting that threatened
to swamp Lincoln's administration and follows General George
McClellan's ill-fated campaign in Virginia. The third episode charts
the military brilliance of Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and
Stonewall Jackson, Antietam and emancipation.

"Simply Murder -- 1863"/"The Universe of Battle -- 1863"
Tuesday, September 24, 2002 (8-10:30 pm)
The fourth episode documents the misery brought by war at the front and
at home and the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and
Gettysburg. The fifth episode examines the fall of Vicksburg and the
first use of black troops.

"Valley of the Shadow of Death -- 1864"/"Most Hallowed Ground -- 1864"
Wednesday, September 25, 2002 (8-10:30 pm)
The sixth episode considers the biographical parallels between Grant
and Lee, then documents the horrendous conditions of hospitals in the
North and South. In the seventh episode Lincoln faces off with his old
commanding general George McClellan in the 1864 presidential election.

"War Is All Hell -- 1865"/"The Better Angels of Our Nature -- 1865"
Thursday, September 26, 2002 (8-10:30 pm)
The eighth episode chronicles Sherman's March to the Sea and its fatal
blow to the Confederacy. The final episode spells the end of the war --
and the end of President Lincoln at the hands of John Wilkes Booth.

Step back in time and relive a painful and glorious chapter in our
