We've "G-autumn"! http://www.educationworld.com/a_lesson/lesson280.shtml Children are in school, leaves are crunching under your feet, and the distant cheers of enthusiastic football fans can be heard on Friday night -- can fall be far away? Although you may not be ready bid farewell to summer, Mother Nature has another plan! Prepare your students and yourself for the change of season with creative lessons that share an autumn theme. Included: Five fall lessons that emphasize language arts, math, and science concepts! The five lessons that comprise this week's Lesson Planning resource are listed below. (Approximate grade levels for each lesson are indicated in parentheses.) Graphing Greenery In this lesson, students gather leaves and trace them on graph paper. They then plot coordinates that approximate the shape of the leaves and share those coordinates as "worksheets" for other students to complete. (Grades 6-8) Mother Nature Has Her Say As part of this creative writing activity, students prepare interview questions for Mother Nature and then respond (as the lady herself!) to questions designed by another student. (Grades 3-12) Going Nuts for a New Grade An ideal source for an adorable bulletin board that features student work, this activity gets kids to consider "resolutions" for the new school year! (Grades K-5) Leaf Weight-Loss Plan Students measure the weight of a container of leaves daily to discover how quickly it grows lighter as the foliage dries. (Grades 3-5) Fall Similes The leaves of fall are like a roaring wildfire setting hillsides ablaze, and this lesson that has students create and decorate fall similes is like a gift just waiting to be opened!
