LESSON PLANS

THIS WEEK'S LESSON PLANNING ARTICLE

Fall Lessons? We've "G-autumn"!
http://www.educationworld.com/a_lesson/lesson280.shtml
Children are in school, leaves are crunching under your feet, and the distant
cheers of enthusiastic football fans can be heard on Friday night -- can fall
be
far away? Although you may not be ready bid farewell to summer, Mother Nature
has another plan! Prepare your students and yourself for the change of season
with creative lessons that share an autumn theme. Included: Five fall lessons
that emphasize language arts, math, and science concepts!

The five lessons that comprise this week's Lesson Planning resource are listed
below. (Approximate grade levels for each lesson are indicated in parentheses.)

Graphing Greenery
In this lesson, students gather leaves and trace them on graph paper. They then

plot coordinates that approximate the shape of the leaves and share those
coordinates as "worksheets" for other students to complete. (Grades 6-8)

Mother Nature Has Her Say
As part of this creative writing activity, students prepare interview questions

for Mother Nature and then respond (as the lady herself!) to questions designed

by another student. (Grades 3-12)

Going Nuts for a New Grade
An ideal source for an adorable bulletin board that features student work, this

activity gets kids to consider "resolutions" for the new school year! (Grades
K-5)

Leaf Weight-Loss Plan
Students measure the weight of a container of leaves daily to discover how
quickly it grows lighter as the foliage dries. (Grades 3-5)

Fall Similes
The leaves of fall are like a roaring wildfire setting hillsides ablaze, and
this lesson that has students create and decorate fall similes is like a gift
just waiting to be opened! (Grades 3-12)
