BREAKFAST FOR THE BRAIN

BFTB: Breakfast for the Brain - preparing for the America's Cup
http://www.theschooldaily.com/articleView.asp?articlePK=16081

1. The America's Cup started life in 1851 under another name. What was
the name of the trophy?
2. What was the name of the famous British tea magnate who challenged
many times for the America's Cup?
3. Alan Bond of Australia took the cup to Freemantle in which year?
4. Who was the American who won the Cup back for America in 1986?
Answers:

Education Matters: Number 2: Motivating the Unmotivated
http://www.theschooldaily.com/articleView.asp?articlePK=15921
By Defyd Williams: Bailey Junior Kurariki - the name, and look of cocky
confidence in the courtroom sends shudders down the spine. That children
not yet in their teens can commit murder is the tip of a frightening
iceberg that New Zealand must demolish in the next five to 10 years.
Frank Haden in a column in the 'Sunday Star-Times' correctly identified
the source of the problem at the door of parents, but dysfunctional
children who beget dysfunctional children are incapable of dealing with
these problems themselves. Our schools are filling up with children who
know no fear, no respect, and no limits. What can we do? Firstly we need
to open the school gate to all the agencies dealing with dysfunctional
families. Organisations like CYPs (Children and Young Persons) and CYFs
(Children Youth and Families) need to have their offices based inside
the school gate and innovative schools who have already adopted this
approach are doing society a huge service.

Teachers.net Gazette: Given Names When NOT to Use Them and when TO Use
Them
http://www.theschooldaily.com/articleView.asp?articlePK=16074
by Dr. Marvin Marshall: What's in a name? That which we call a rose by
any other name would not smell as sweet. Romeo and Juliet. Act ii. Sc.
2. 1. Most teachers have a desire to establish good relations with their
students. To achieve this objective, young teachers new to the
profession often suggest that students call them by their first name.
This is a natural tendency, especially since American society has taken
to addressing others by given names, rather than by surnames.
