        For now I'd rather not change an icon if the PC is running
a VNC server. My thought here is perhaps too forward looking: what
happens when we activate a second app in addition to VNC? Adding
more than one "icon badge" to device pretty much obscures the icon
completely.
        Anyone else on list have an opinion here?

        Using the VNC registry keys like that to populate Kaboodle's
VNC Property Panels like that is a great idea.
