ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವರ ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯಂಜನ ಸೇರಿ ಗುಣಿತಾಕ್ಷರಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಸರಾಗತೆಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಅರ್ಥಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವುದು ಸಹಜ ಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ವಿಶೇಷವೆಂಬಂತೆ ಎರಡು ಹ್ರಸ್ವ ಗಳನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಐ ಮತ್ತು ಔ ಗಳು ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತವೆ ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಈ ಎರಡು ಅಕ್ಷರಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವರಗಳ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯೇ ಇರಿಸಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಇವೆರಡನ್ನು ಸಂಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಗಳೆಂದು ಕೇಶೀರಾಜ ಕರೆದಿರಬಹುದಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
