The recently released IDB research on "Achieving the Millennium Development Goals in IDB Member Countries in the Post-Crisis World"bit.ly/oV5y7e shows that most IDB member countries are much behind achieving the MDG targets and poverty has been increasing at an alarming scale. One explanation of poverty among Muslims is their intense aversion to Riba and hence also to interest-based financial services. Hence Islamic finance can be an instrument to make financial services work effectively in the war against poverty.
