We did it a few years ago (when it was still authorized) in April and had problems with avalanches of snow and trees blocking the river at places. Otherwise very nice. I think there are plenty of other possibilities in the Alps around that time, especially dans les Alpes Maritimes (upper upper Vesubie if you like it really steep!). Also "interesting" is the Reallon with many rapids that you cannot portage or paddle... (I would not advise this one to anybody). Have fun, Bruno
