Hi all,

First of: I have been a big fan of kbibtex and have used it for many years.
However, since the move to kde4 I have grown to dislike it more and more.
The UI takes a lot of getting used to and particularly the whole
kde-integration is in my oppinion just horrible.

That second bit is for the most part because I don't use kde. I really like
applications that make use of Qt, but some of them - including kbibtex - try
to use so many of kde-specific bits that it really hampers the usability.

One thing for instance is that kbibtex seems to launch some kind of
audio-control (no idea which part of kde this is), so now I keep getting
sounds blasting over my speakers whenever there is a popup or message.
This is very annoying and something I cannot disable from the settings. So I
would need some kde-specific control panel or w/e to turn these sounds off.

All this is imho just a lot of bloat that really has no business in a decent
application like kbibtex.
Especially if you want to have the application somewhat portable for people
on other systems/DEs to use I would really recommend against all this
kde-integration.

regards,
Alexander

ps; I really don't know too much about the internals of KDE, I haven't used
it in about 4 years, so maybe it's all just really simple to disable or I
have no clue as to what developing Qt-apps entails.
To me these bits just seem really unnecessary for an application like this
and I hope someone can give me some advice as to disabling or circumventing
these issues.

ps2; about the UI: I will probably just have to use it more. Just glad to
see that pubmed search works again (Version 0.4-beta1 in debian sid).
