>> So the question is, what's the simplest way to restore session variables
associated with my login?

This will sound terribly obvious....clear your cookies and relogin. Really!

If you clear your cookies, or at least the one(s) for your site, and you aren't using
the URL parameters to pass the session, clearing them will force the server to start a
new session for you. Login again and you will be fine.

IE 6 includes a button in the Internet Options to clear cookies (all of them). I
usually clear the temporary files and the history too (buttons right next to deleting
the cookies). For good measure, in case you have url parameters (CFID & CFTOKEN), I
sometimes close all of my browser windows too.

FYI, you generally don't need more than 5-15 MB of drive space for the Temporary
Files/cache for IE. Unfortunately, Microsoft has IE default to taking a fairly large
chunk of hard drive space for this. I have seen it take as much as 1+ GB, though
usually 300MB is typical. I always change my browser to use 5-15MB and then clear it
periodically.
