Sorry to prolong this discussion, but I think this discussion has been
unnecessarily taken to an extreme. I believe that the proper approach to
this issue rests in open and honest communication with management. If I
were Adaryl, I would take my idea to my supervisor or the appropriate
manager(s) and explain it from soup to nuts. If they sign off on it,
problem solved, everyone is happy, and Adaryl proceeds with clear
conscience. If not, then Adaryl might not be "happy", but will either do
what's necessary to move forward with the project without relying on
company resources, or will drop the whole thing altogether. The important
thing is that in either case, Adaryl's integrity is not compromised and
cannot be called into question.
