Title: Re: [KCMUG] Product for Databases and the Web
Craig,

I am going to also forward your question to the Cold Fusion group and the KC-Web Group. You'll have more chances of getting input with more people reading it. Keep in mind that a lot of people are out for the holidays, so there may be no response until Monday.

Thanks!

Thanks to all for your assistance.  As it works out, I love CF due to the clarity of its code, but I have been able to develop the page with ASP, thanks to DWMX.  When it is done, I'll give ya'll a link.

QUESTION:  I want to provide a link that does the same thing as the IE's BACK link.  Here's why.  When using dropdowns, a normal link back to my EventsSearch page resets the selections on the 3 dropdown menus.  However, IE's BACK link back takes you to the EventsSearch page, but leaves the 3 dropdowns as they were last set.  Thus the user only needs to tweak whichever dropdown search selection that needs tweaking.  Thanks, Craig Wolfe

I think this issue all comes down to one simple thing...  Money!

The main reason that I started using ASP and PHP instead of CF was that I could find free or extremely cheap hosting services(mine is currently only $16 a YEAR) that allowed me to use ASP and/or PHP.  My host right now is www.catalyst2.com <http://www.catalyst2.com>  and I have had pretty good results with them so far.

I think it is definately worth taking a quick look into PHP or ASP, because you really dont need to be a programmar to use either of them...  as long as you can figure out how to do the specifics of what you want, then it is very simple...  and if you have trouble, ask a question on this board!

If you can afford the money of CF hosting, and need to get things rolling a little quicker, then you should probably go with CF first and look into PHP and ASP later...

let me know if you need more information...

First, what Ryan says about CF is absolutely true.  I tried learning Perl
and totally got lost.
I tried learning PHP and was able to understand the basics but quit and
moved to CF
because so many encouraged me that it was easier.  Most of the gurus on
this list are
WAY above my head, but there's no question that even I can work with
CF.  I'm also
convinced that CF has staying power and is not just a fad.
Okay now hosts:  Especially if you need a bulk account (that you want to
break into smaller
accounts - like I do for my design clients) Hostlane
http://www.hostlane.com is an excellent
choice.  24/7 tech service (phone, email and live chat), very reasonably
priced and very
reliable.  Another very nice thing about Hostlane is that you can run PHP
or CF in the SAME
account!  It's a very nice set up.
