>> how comparable (in the arena of potential employer impressions) would a Brainbench
>> certification with a decent score be

A few years ago I thought Brainbench would become quite popular (and hence well
respected). I was even asked to take a few exams on behalf of employers/consulting
firms. The CF 4.5/5 wasn't bad, though it seemed easier than the Macromedia test.
You took the exam from home, you could pause it once, you had more time, and you could
use resource material, which makes it far far easier.

MM's tests seemed harder and don't allow you to use your books or pause.

I have sampled the new CFMX beta exam on Brainbench and either the test is easier than
I remembered (highly likely since it is an incomplete and shorter) or my skills have
improved.

If the employer is looking for something easy to judge you relative to others and you
have taken the time/effort to take and pass the Brainbench, it is better than nothing,
however, I doubt many of the hiring managers have heard of it and hence an 'official'
exam might be better respected.

Either way, at $150/exam from MM, if you don't see a direct benefit from passing it,
you may want to skip it. If you can spare some money and are constantly on the job
search, it might be worthwhile.
